Building a new home? Here's some things to consider when it comes to your Electrics...

Whether your building a new home or renovating, it's so important to get the installation of your electrics right from the get-go. Here's our tips and making sure your electrical plan is second to none...

· Home Electrical,Tips And Tricks

1) Consult an Electrician early

One of the most common mistakes we see when it comes to an electrical fit-out is that early planning has taken a back-seat. Ideally, when it comes to starting a home from scratch, or even renovating a singular room, you want to be in touch with an electrician early so that they can help you make the important decisions of where outlets, switchboards and wiring is going to go. If electrical planning is left too late - it can often result in powerpoints and switches being placed in the wrong spot - something which can really decrease the livability of your new home or room. The key is to consult with your electrician ahead of time to avoid headaches later.

2) Think about the tech level of your home

If you're new home or renovated room is going to include new advancements in technology (such as audio visual set ups) you need to let your electrician know. These types of set-ups are always a lot of fun for us to do - but they often draw a lot of power - so we as electricians need to plan carefully for such intricate and demanding set ups.

3) Don't over-rely on lights

The lighting plan is perhaps one of the most crucial items for a new home electrical fit-out. But, that doesn't mean that a new build should have an excess amount of lights in each room! A good lighting plan should take into account both natural and artificial light sources to ensure that any space feels livable and comfortable. Further to this, it's important to remember that every light that is placed in a room should always serve a purpose. This might mean that dimmer switches and directional lights make an appearance in your lighting plan - which will ultimately make your home feel far more enjoyable to be in.

4) Don't forget outdoors!

Often, outdoor lighting can be left to the last minute and can have a very rushed feel to the approach. However, we like to think of outdoor lighting as another great way to express your style and what's important to you! Are you planning on having a feature garden bed display where you'd like spot-lighting to take part? Make sure that's planned for in the wiring phase. Perhaps your planning on having a bar-fridge out the back near your BBQ? Make sure you have powerpoints to cater for that. It’ll cost a lot more to install them later on, post-construction, than it will while you’re still building the house - so consulting with an electrician during this phase is vital.

5) No question is a silly question
We know that electrical plans can seem daunting, especially when you're having to juggle all the other madness that comes with building or renovating your home.
